1440 mm* ultra zoom lens in compact dimensions
In addition to enabling incredible close-ups as well as taking advantage of telephoto compression effects, it can also be used to provide a shallow depth-of-field that can be used to highlight just your subject and de-focus the background.
The COOLPIX P610 provides extensive coverage from wide-angle to telephoto with a focal range equivalent to 24-1440 mm*, in a compactly designed camera that also boasts high-performance vibration reduction. By using Dynamic Fine Zoom, it is possible to go up to 2880 mm** without any sacrifice in resolution. Moreover, digital zoom takes you up to 5760 mm* for more increased magnification and for framing and composition of long shots. By combining both zoom styles, it is possible to take some astronomical subjects. Inclusion of leading-edge technologies such as the Super ED lens assures acquisition of sharp images. These attributes, together with superior portability and handling, make the COOLPIX P610 an ideal performer for capturing images of birds and other wildlife, landscapes, aircraft, railroads, sports, and even celestial bodies, such as the moon, and Galilean satellites.
* 35mm format equivalent.
** Magnification of Dynamic Fine Zoom is calculated from the maximum wide-angle position of optical zoom.

INCREDIBLE SHOOTING CAPABILITIES OF THE COOLPIX P610

1440 mm* optical zoom and 2880 mm** Dynamic Fine Zoom let you close-in on and capture subjects that aren t visible to the naked eye
With optical zoom up to 1440 mm*, Dynamic Fine Zoom taking you to 2880 mm**, and moreover digital zoom taking you up to 5760 mm*, it s possible to take faraway subjects that aren t visible to the naked eye and bring them up close to fill the screen as if they were right in front of you. The 24-1440 mm* focal range of its 60x optical zoom enables the COOLPIX P610 to be a total solution for capturing a broad variety of subjects.
* 35mm format equivalent.
** Magnification of Dynamic Fine Zoom is calculated from the maximum wide-angle position of optical zoom.
Exciting visual expression becomes possible
By virtue of its extreme zoom capabilities, the COOLPIX P610 offers extraordinary power of expression by zooming in tight and capitalizing on the telephoto compression effect. And since depth-of-field becomes shallower in the telephoto range, this can be used for shots that focus attention only on the subject.
From 24 mm wide-angle to 1440 mm telephoto, the wide zoom coverage supports shooting of moving subjects
The wide zoom range (equivalent to 24-1440 mm in 35mm format) enables you to smoothly capture moving subjects in the viewfinder — it’s as easy as first locating your subject while zoomed out for a wide field of view, and then zooming in to telephoto for a tight shot
This wide zoom range will also prove itself to be invaluable when you need to take pictures of different subjects located at various distances away from the camera, or in cases where the distance to a subject fluctuates drastically.
Achieves sharp image rendition and beautiful bokeh simultaneously
By creating sharp images with beautifully de-focused backgrounds, it is possible to draw attention to the subject in the foreground and take highly expressive photographs.
A class-leading compact body* with powerful camera-shake compensation enables stress-free handheld shooting
The COOLPIX P610 was designed to offer incredible zoom in a body that is the smallest in the world for this category*, providing easier carrying and holding compared to D-SLRs with interchangeable lenses. What’s more, high-performance camera-shake compensation effectively reduces vibration that can cause blurry images, so images are crisp and clear even during handheld shooting at a high zoom ratio.
* Among digital cameras equipped with 60x or more optical zoom available as of Jan. 23, 2015. Based on Nikon research.

TECHNOLOGY THAT MAKES HIGH IMAGE QUALITY A REALITY

Super ED lens effectively minimizes chromatic aberration
To maximize the camera s image rendition capabilities even at 1440 mm* optical zoom, the COOLPIX P610 incorporates Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements as are featured in high-end NIKKOR interchangeable lenses for Nikon D-SLR cameras.
Through a dramatic reduction in chromatic aberration (green-magenta color fringing), the lens contributes to this camera s expressive photographic capabilities.
*35mm format equivalent.

Description

At the request of a viewer, I prepared this tutorial on the Nikon Coolpix P610. The camera has enough features to make a thorough tutorial a very long process, so this tutorial is relatively brief. "Brief" doesn't mean short. I cover most of the controls and provide an overview of their function and do similarly with the menus. Neither is a complete immersion in the details. With the menus, I start from full reset and set menu selections as I would normally use them. I don't spend time on photographic technique with the camera but try to provide a sampling of the power of the camera for the amateur user. Maybe a later tutorial focusing on more detailed technique to produce photos under more difficult conditions will be in order. The camera has amazing capability and hopefully this will cause you to study further and experiment with more features than I can cover here.
